Nutrition As a Tool for Academic Success

As parents attempt to blend wholesome nutrients into smoothies and other quick meal ideas, the sad fact remains that our food supply falls short in providing adequate vitamins and minerals. Even organic fruits and vegetables may not have the comprehensive nutritional profile that best meets the needs of our students. Besides supplementing with a food based vitamin– what is an efficient solution? You may want to consider the work of Dr, Carolyn Dean author of The Magnesium Miracle as a resource. Dr. Dean has dedicated much of her career to researching and understanding the value of magnesium and other minerals as the building blocks our bodies require to be healthy. Magnesium is involved in 700-800 enzyme systems in the body and treating a deficiency in magnesium can reduce symptoms of ADHD, anxiety, depression and learning and behavior differences among other health related issues.
